  • The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum (MSHOF&M), operated by the Mississippi Sports Foundation, Inc., is conducting a search to identify and name a new Executive Director (Director).

    The Director is responsible for the strategic creation and execution of both annual and long-term plans of work that will ensure sustainable growth and success in the marketplace.

    This leader must be passionate about the mission of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum - to preserve, protect, and promote Mississippi's rich sports heritage for current and future generations. The Director must also be capable of collaborating with public/private partners at local, state, national, and international levels to elevate the MSHOF&M's profile as a valuable creative economy asset and desirable destination for visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and origins.

    This is a full-time position reporting directly to the MSHOF&M Board of Directors. Candidates must be willing to travel plus work at nights, on weekends, and/or on holidays (or as needed to fulfill job duties and expectations).

    About the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum

    Envisioned in 1991, and officially opened in 1996, the MSHOF&M has now hosted almost one million visitors representative of all fifty U.S. states as well as dozens of foreign countries. The 22,000 square foot MSHOF&M houses a self-guided combination of sights, sounds, and motions designed to celebrate Mississippi's rich history of producing world-class athletes, coaches, and teams. The goal is to provide every visitor an exciting and informative experience that keeps memories alive for generations to come.

    While the State of Mississippi has assisted in the original design and construction of the MSHOF&M, as well as current renovation activities, I 00% of operating funds are raised from public/private sources on an annual basis.

    At this time, well over 300 sports icons have been inducted ... with each member having unique and special connections to Mississippi. In addition to announcing an induction class each year, the MSHOF&M annually recognizes excellence in college athletics with awards for football (Conerly/Hull Trophies), basketball (Howell/Gillom Trophies), and baseball (Ferriss Trophy). Winners are selected by members of the media, college coaches/administrators, and scouts. The MSHOF&M is also responsible for other meaningful sports-related recognitions throughout each calendar year as well as a popular series of charitable fund raising events in the Jackson Metro Area and other communities around Mississippi.

    For reference, the MSHOF&M is considered a featured attraction in the LeFleur Museum District which also includes the Mississippi Children's Museum, Mississippi Natural Science Museum, and Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum.

    Leadership Responsibilities

    ⇒ Oversee all aspects of daily operations (team members/exhibits/building/grounds/etc.)

    ⇒ Represent the MSHOF&M brand/image in communities around Mississippi and beyond

    ⇒ Collaborate with local, state, national, and international officials and organizations

    ⇒ Fundraise in pursuit of charitable contributions, grants, and other support/resources/revenue

    ⇒ Lead the development and launch of marketing, advertising, communications, and public relations

    concepts/campaigns to "grow" the MSHOF&M's position in the marketplace

    ⇒ Act as the MSHOF&M's official spokesperson when/where appropriate

    ⇒ Interact regularly with members of the MSHOF&M Board of Directors

    ⇒ Other duties as assigned/necessary

    Education & Experience

    The most highly-qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Marketing and Communications, Hospitality Management, or a closely related field. The consideration process will be driven by analysis of education credentials, career experiences, and personal/professional accomplishments that indicate strong likelihoods of meeting the needs of the MSHOF&M.

    Salary & Benefits

    $80,000 to $100,000 (including a market-appropriate benefits package) determined based on qualifications and experience.
